I am sorry to announce the closing of one of our research divisions dealing with biological computing.
It was our ambition to create a "living" computer--to create a programmed system based on the same biological information processes that allow me to type this message. Unfortunately our experiments in this area have turned out to be complete failures.
Our ultimate aim with these biological computing projects was to eventually generate an artificial intelligence with superior processing power; however, we have come to realize that the intelligent power of a system is limited by the intelligent power of its creator.
It would be impossible for one to program an intelligence greater than that which one can comprehend, wouldn't it? There is of course the potential for "Evolving" programs but an evolving artificial intelligence leaves many questions of reliability unanswered.
Resources from these projects will be diverted into our covert information and intelligence divisions.

Greetings, and welcome to Joerie. While holding its status as an acronym for the Johannesburg Organisation for Emerging Research and Internaional Egalitarianism, Joerie is also a local name for an insect known commonly as the "Antlion." Soon you may come to understand the appropriateness of this name. If not, then there really isn't any loss.
Organisations such as this one often have bold mission statements and grand ideas of some sort of "new world order." They are founded with a particular goal in mind and attempt to move the world in their direction. Such organisations ultimately fail due to corruption and absurdity. Joerie was not founded on such a basis. Joerie was designed to change with the world. It would be an organisation that moved in whichever direction the world needed most. The success of this has yet to be determined. We are, however, working dilligently.
Our primary purpose is to make known to the world the inequities and corruptions that have become pervasive in nearly every institution that structures our global society. When these institutions resist (as they often do) the inevitable forward movement of the world, we do what we can to convince them to move with us. Our secondary purpose is to develop new technologies that will easen the world's transition into its increasingly optimal state. Our research divisions work in a broad spectrum of areas to design, develop, and implement these technologies.
I use "Increasingly Optimal State" with some reluctance, as I believe that there is a level of confusion, especially amongst newer members, that Joerie is Utopian in nature. We do not strive to create a perfect world. In fact, perfection is not a concept that we embrace at Joerie at all. Throughout history the world has attempted to progress and there have been those who have resisted this progress. Needless to say, it is most often those who have reaped the benefits of inequity and corruption that have been the first to lash against progression. Sometimes violently.
Joerie is not against violence. We understand that most attempts at progress in the past have either led to or emerged from acts of violence. Progress itself is violent. All forms of progress in a societal sense are attacks on "The System." We embrace peace, but we do not expect it.
I have created this log to benefit the members of Joerie and the supporters of our cause, as well as to keep educated our enemies. Perhaps this is arrogant on my behalf. Time will tell.
